Tonto Polychrome is a colorful decorated pottery type made by the Salado people between AD 1300 and AD 1400. It can be found over most of southern Arizona from the Tonto Basin to the Phoenix and Tucson areas and the Safford Valley and on into western New Mexico. The Salado were some of the last prehistoric people to occupy southern Arizona before the Apaches and Spaniards came into this area. They had disappeared by AD 1450.

The bird is a ladder-backed woodpecker.
