The Gila woodpecker nests most often in hollows it digs in the trunk of the saguaro cactus. These birds often visit the yards of Tucson houses. A pair of them sometimes wake me in the morning with their loud calls which sound like sardonic laughter. The decorative border is based on a Pima basket design.
